The "new" 454 from a bunch of parts from about 5 or 6 different motors is ready to go into the Stepside.

The 454 4-bolt main block came from an '84 Suburban that I seized the lower end in.

The forged steel crank came from a 454 in a '73 C20 camper special truck.

The 771 casting semi-closed chamber heads came from the 1974 Pacesetter 25ft motorhome (the one I bought in Oregon with no back body on and we had 44" tires on the back of for a while).

The Holey intake and Carb came from the 396 that was in the Big Crew Cab originally.

The pistons, Comp 270HR cam, lifters, valve springs and rockers came from Travis's old Blazer 454.

The chrome timing cover came from a blown up 402. The gear drive I bought used for $75. The Holley valve covers I traded for. The flywheel and harmonic balancer came off other 454 motors I had.

As for the "new" parts, it features new stainless valves 2.19/1.88. New oil pump, pick-up tube and screen, rings and bearings. The heads were ported and intake was port matched for $250 ($200 of which was paid for by selling a 16ft camp trailer for $200 that I had got for free). I traded some 454 core blocks for the machine work on the shortblock. Jeff balanced the motor, went through the heads, and assembled it as a whole longblock (even cleaning all my old and dirty pieces and parts) for $500.

So this is my $825 454 motor that I really hope will last in my Stepside unlike the previous ones. It should be in and running tomorrow and driving me to the town of Sprague. I picked it up today with the Stepside at about 5pm, pulled the 454 that was in the Stepside out tonight, and spent a bunch of time finding all the proper parts and pieces necessary to bolt onto the "new" motor. A lack of a pilot bushing made putting it in tonight not possible.
